Year-round events and activities to inspire you to write

The 3-day Bournemouth Writing Festival will take place 25th to 27th April 2025!

Writing is hard, isn't it? It's also incredibly lonely. Sometimes, you can sit for hours behind a blinking cursor on a blank page, or get lost in the myriad of editing, or just don't know where to turn for marketing help or finding the right agent. Procrastination is our enemy.

That's where the Bournemouth Writing Festival comes in. Through community-led events and activities, we help you on your journey, provide cheerleading and encouragement and access to writing professionals and content to make sure you get to the end of whatever you are writing.

From complete beginners not even knowing where to start to published pros looking to get their next novel out there (and everything in between), we want to support you to get YOUR words out of your head and on to the page - regardless of your age, ability or background.

Our 3-day festival in April brings free and ticketed events and activities across a whole plethora of genres, topics and subjects for all levels of writers. You can see what we did in 2024 here.

We are currently in the planning stages for 2025. So, in the meantime, here are some things to get you going:

  • Join our free Facebook community for writers. Over 1,000 writers in the group have the same challenges and pressures as you. So ask for advice, find a beta-reader for your manuscript or seek guidence on any aspect of your writing.

  • Attend our monthly networking meetups where you can meet, mingle, chat and collaborate with other local writers.

  • Find a local writing group. There are groups across Dorset, plus our Writers' Havens that we have set up in BCP Libraries.

  • We started a free YouTube Channel interviewing local writers, authors and writing professionals. Have a watch and you be inspired or learn something new!

  • If you write romance, then make sure you check out our Romance Writing Festival taking place on Saturday 18th October 2025.

Whether you want to be self-published, traditionally published, fiction or non-fiction or just want to write for the joy of it, our supportive writing community will help you to improve and progress your writing journey - wherever you want it to lead to.
