New Writers’ Havens aims to foster a vibrant writing community

BCP Libraries and the Bournemouth Writing Festival are thrilled to announce a partnership aimed at fostering creativity and community engagement through the establishment of new writing groups within the 24 libraries within Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP).

The new “Writers’ Havens”, set to launch in the coming months, will provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for writers of all backgrounds and skill levels to come together, share their passion for storytelling, and grow as writers. These groups will meet regularly at BCP Libraries' various locations, making it convenient for residents across the authority to participate.

Volunteers will play a pivotal role in guiding and inspiring group members on their writing journeys. Whether you're an established writer or simply have a deep appreciation for writing, your passion can make a difference in someone's life.

This exciting collaboration is looking for dedicated volunteers to lead and nurture these writing communities, to serve as group facilitators and hosts. Simply choose a day, time and library suitable to your schedule, and the library will provide a free space and the Bournemouth Writing Festival will support its promotion.

"We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with the Bournemouth Writing Festival," commented Janet Westcott, Reader Development Librarian, BCP Libraries. "Our libraries have long been a hub for knowledge and creativity, and we believe that these writing groups will add a new layer of literary richness to our community. We invite volunteers who are passionate about writing and nurturing talent to join us in this initiative.”

"We believe that everyone has a story to tell, and our goal is to empower individuals to share their unique voices," commented Dominic Wong, Festival Director of the Bournemouth Writing Festival. "Feedback from our inaugural festival has highlighted the need for regular meetups, growing our creative community spirit and hearing from a wide variety of voices. Partnering with BCP Libraries will not only enhance our community but also provide camaraderie with like-minded writers and authors in safe spaces."
